First Days of Art!

August 26th - 30th, 2019

Students have been getting to know me and I'm doing my best to get to know all of them! We are starting off the year by some simple getting to know you art projects.

Kindergarten

Students learned about Vashti and her first days of Art Class. They were read "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. We began creating our own dots by coloring coffee filters circles with markers. Next class we will finish coloring in our "dots" and spray them with water to watch the colors blend!

1st Grade

Students looked at the work of Jasper Johns and noticed how he like to use the Alphabet and numbers in his works of art. Students were given a piece of paper folded into 16 spaces. Student used the letters of their name to fill in each space. We then traced the letters with black oil pastels and will be painting the empty spaces with bright, vibrant colors.

2nd, 3rd and 4th grades

Students in these grades are ALL creating a Getting to Know Line Design sheet. Different lines are paired with "I like..." or I am...." statements. Students are drawing their lines on large popsicle or craft sticks that will be put together to make a much larger collaborative artwork! Stay tuned.

5th grade

Students used their names to create an abstract name drawing after breaking up their 9x12 paper into 3 sections with 2 simple wavy lines. Students used their first and last name to fill-in the sections making sure the letter of their names touched the top of the paper and line. Sharpie markers were used to trace their names and separating lines, focusing on creating a variety of line widths. Oil pastel designs and watercolor paints will be used to finish off these abstract artworks.

6th grade

Students will be making a graffiti style name after looking many examples of artists who started out as graffiti artists. We learned a little about the artists Banksy, Keith Haring and Seen. We learned that graffiti is illegal but some artists became popular because of their start as a graffiti artists. Students will be making graffiti versions of their name and putting them on a "brick" wall when completed.
